Confira o papo com o criador da EC Pedals, Eldar Cohen.

 

 

Pedais & Efeitos: Eldar, Muito obrigado por nos conceder essa entrevista! Como surgiu seu interesse por pedais de efeito?

Eldar: Eu sou guitarrista profissional, de uma banda chamada Feelabout em Israel e os pedais ocuparam uma grande parte dos meus estudos na guitarra, a busca pelo timbre ideal e a maioria de sons bizarros que você pode conseguir a partir dos pedais se tornou meu melhor passatempo quando eu era mais jovem e estava começando a tocar.

Pedais & Efeitos: E em que momento você decidiu tonar isso um negócio e criar a EC Pedals?

Eldar: Quando eu estudei eletrônica na escola eu sabia que poderia unir os dois mundos que eu mais gostava na vida – guitarra e eletrônica, logo eu comecei a construir meus próprios pedais de efeitos, já que os pedais disponíveis no mercado eram super caros no nosso país, a partir daí eu comecei a vender para alguns amigos mais próximos e daí para abrir um negócio foi um pequeno passo.

Pedais & Efeitos: Qual foi o primeiro pedal produzido e comercializado já com a marca EC?

Eldar: O primeiro pedal e protótipo que eu fiz sob a marca EC foi o Zombie Distortion que ainda é um dos nossos pedais mais vendidos na nossa linha, é um pedal simples, com 2 knobs mas com muita personalidade e ganho.

Pedais & Efeitos: Quantos pedais você tem na sua linha hoje? Pode falar um pouco sobre cada um deles?

Eldar: Nós temos sete pedais na nossa linha:

– Duas distorções: Zombie Distortion e Mystical Sustainer

– Um pedal de Fuzz: Angry Ape

-Dois pedais de Overdrive(um para guitarra e outro para baixo): Overlord Overdrive

– Um booster: Hot Rodded

– Compressor: Eyeball.

Temos também o SuperSwitcher que é um sistema de comutação programável com 8 effects loops, 5 amp channel switches , 21 presets , buffer de entrada, a opção de link e muito mais recursos. 

Pedais & Efeitos: Como funciona o seu processo de Desenvolvimento para um novo pedal? Quanto tempo leva até o lançamento?

Eldar: Bom, pensar num pedal e imaginá-lo na minha cabeça até que eu tenha um protótipo pode levar de 2 a 3 meses até que eu tenha o que eu quero. Eu costumo projetar um protótipo e a partir daí vou substituindo peças e alterando coisas até chegar aonde eu quero. Do protótipo até o produto final pode levar mais de 2-3 meses.

Pedais & Efeitos: Existe uma preocupação em tornar os pedais originais no aspecto sonoro?

Eldar: Nós tentamos fabricar os pedais mais especiais que conseguimos, há muitos pedais e grandes fabricantes no mercado e tentamos ser diferentes. Todos os nossos pedais podem atender a diferentes estilos de música e nós não costumamos definir um pedal como “Você vai ser um distortion apenas para metal!” Nós damos ao pedal uma grande extensão de ganho e uma EQ ampla, você pode ver isso no Mystical Sustainer e o ganho varia de baixo ganho em alguns ajustes a um alto ganho, você realmente pode tocar blues, rock ou metal com esse pedal.

Pedais & Efeitos: Qual o pedal mais vendido da EC?

Eldar: O Mystical Sustainer Distortion é nosso pedal mais vendido e ele também recebeu a indicação “melhor compra” na revista Total Guitar.

Pedais & Efeitos: O Brasil é um mercado emergente e cresce cada vez mais. Os seus pedais ainda não chegaram oficialmente ao Brasil. Você vende diretamente para cá ou tem algum plano para que seus pedais estejam por aqui?

Eldar: No início de 2013 nós fomos a NAMM em Los Angeles para nos concentrarmos no mercado dos EUA. Agora que temos uma distribuição por lá, podemos nos concentrar em outros mercados como o Brasil, toda a América do Sul e Europa. Nós estamos esperando a oportunidade de uma distribuidora para nos ajudar no desafio de enviar pedais para o Brasil.

Pedais & Efeitos: E quais são os projetos futuros da EC Pedals? Pode nos adiantar alguma coisa, alguma notícia exclusiva?

Eldar: Na verdade sim, temos alguns planos para terminar um par de pedais até o fim de 2013 e no próximo ano pretendemos visitar a NAMM novamente e também a Musikmesse. Alguns desses pedais são um Delay, outro Distortion e mais algumas coisas que eu não posso expor nesse momento.

Pedais & Efeitos: Eldar, Thank you for this interview! How did your interest in effect pedals?

Eldar: I’m a professional guitar player of the band Feelabout from Israel and pedals had a great big part of my guitar studies, the search for the ultimate tone and the most bizarre sounds you can get from pedals just became my best hobby when I was younger in my early years of playing.

Pedais & Efeitos: And at what point did you decide that behold a business and create EC Pedals?

Eldar: When I studied in school electronics I knew I could combine the 2 most favorite worlds in my life – guitar and electronics, soon I started building my own effect pedals as most pedals were super expensive in our country, from there I started selling some to my close friends and from there to opening a business was just a short step.

Pedais & Efeitos: What was the first pedal ever produced and sold with the EC brand name?

Eldar: The first pedal and prototype that I had under the EC brand is the Zombie distortion which is still one of the most selling units we have on the line, it’s a very simple 2 knobs distortion but with lots of balls and tight gain.

Pedais & Efeitos: How many pedals do you have on your line today? Can you talk a little about each of them?

Eldar: We have 7 pedals on the line – 2 distortions zombie and the mystical sustainer , fuzz pedal – the angry ape , 2 overdrive pedals one for guitar and one for bass which are the famous Overlord Overdrive, a compressor and a clean booster.

We also have the SuperSwitcher which is a programmable switching system with 8 effect loops, 5 amp channel switches , 21 presets , input buffer , link option and much more features.

Pedais & Efeitos: How does the process of development for a new pedal? How long until the release?

Eldar: Well from thinking about a pedal and imaginating it in my head till I have a prototype It could take 2-3 months till I have what I wanted, I usually design something as prototype and from there it goes couple of times to replacing parts and changing things until I get exactly what I wanted. from prototype to actually building stock it could take another 2-3 months.

Pedais & Efeitos: There is a concern in making your pedals originals in the sound aspect?

Eldar: We try to manufacture special pedals as we can do , there are lots of pedals and great manufactures out there and we try to be different, all of our pedals can do couple of guitar styles and we don’t name a pedal like – you’re going to be a distortion for metal only! We give wide gain and EQ to change – you can see it in the mystical sustainer , you have wide eq and the gain can be very low gain settings to very high gain , you really could do blues , rock and metal with this pedal.

Pedais & Efeitos: What is the best selling pedal of EC?

Eldar: The mystical sustainer distortion pedal is the most selling one, he also got the “best buy” award from Total Guitar Magazine.

Pedais & Efeitos: Brazil is an emerging market and grows increasingly. Your pedals have not officially arrived in Brazil. You sell directly here or have a plan to get your pedals are here?

Eldar: At the start of 2013 we did the NAMM 13’ show in LA which we focused mainly on the USA market, now that we have a distribution there we have time to focus on Brazil , whole south America and Europe. We defiantly waiting for the right distribution from Brazil to offer us that chance.

Pedais & Efeitos: And what are the future projects of the EC Pedals? Can you do any good, some exclusive news?

Eldar: Actually yes, we have plans to finish couple of more pedals till the end of 2013 and for next year we plan to visit NAMM again and also Musikmesse, some of the pedals will be delay another distortion pedal and more things I cannot expose this time.
