Pedais & Efeitos: Masaki, can you tell us a little history of Vemuran? How and when did the company?
Masaki Uemura: Vemuram started 2008,members/staffs are musician and engineer. As we love the music and guitar,we dreamt to have our own unique pedal. In the beginning it was hard like trial and error but without giving up and compromising,it took us 3 yrs.for getting finally into the goal.
Pedais & Efeitos: For those who do not know their pedals, you could talk about each of them, with their sonic characteristics?
Masaki Uemura: Our 4 model has different type of sonic characteristics…
Rage, our very first product, takes all the flatness out of the conventional overdrive pedal and adds another dimension to the tone. The hallmark brass body provides great shielding from the outside and enables a noiseless tone.
Karen, replicates the fat full overdrive tone of the mid 70’s to 80’s era Marshall such as the 4 input JMP and the 2 input JCMs. It’s an overdrive with thick saturation and a pleasant natural compression.
Jan Ray,reproduces that great sustaining punchy clear tones of the blackfaces fender AMPs from the 60s.The tone is crispy yet the low is warm and mellow.
Neoplex,A crunch boos pedal equipped with TIS58(the same FET as Maestro Echoplex EP-3)is used. The legendary FET is available in limited production.
The sound that everyone thought was non-replicable come alive as a clean crunch boost pedal. After careful analysis of the boos circuitry,we at Vemuram were able to recreate that tone and fit it into a compact brass body chasis.A bounce control is available to handle it hi-gain amps.
Pedais & Efeitos: Another thing that caught my attention on the pedals is the Secret “Trimmer” Control. How this control works? The 4 model has its own respective secret trimmer yet different purposes…
Masaki Uemura: Rage , a gain control trimmer on the side panel allows for an even more delicate control over the distortion.
Karen is for gain width trimmer control.
Jan Ray is for saturation trimmer and Neoplex is for bias trimmer control and allows the best position.
Pedais & Efeitos: From what I heard, I thought the overdrive made by Vemuran awesome! How long did it until you find the sound they sought in each?
Masaki Uemura: Our engineer is carrying this idea more than 5 years but to find the best parts for matching took a long time.
Pedais & Efeitos: Complementing the last question: how does the process of development in Vemuran? How long does the start of the process until the release of a new pedal? And how to decide on what launch? It’s a market perception or desire of yours?
Masaki Uemura: It took us 1year for the release of pedal. We went to a few shop in New York and ask them to deal with us.And yes it is our own desire to launch the pedals.
Pedais & Efeitos: You have a great team of artists using their pedals! Scott Henderson, Richie Sambora, Oz Noy … How have these guys using their pedals?
Masaki Uemura: At first we received an e-mail indicates that he wanted to test the pedal, then someone directly bought to the shop, and then we were introduced by the artist to another artist and that’s how we started and felt so lucky that we have great artist using our pedals now.
Pedais & Efeitos: What is the best selling pedal Vemuran and which is your favorite?
Masaki Uemura: The best selling pedal is Jan Ray.Ofcourse,I love them all but recently,I love Karen.
Pedais & Efeitos: In your opinion, what is the main competitive advantage of Vemuran today?
Masaki Uemura: All I can say is it’s different from any other pedals. We create products that let musicians fully express their own sound and sensibility.
Pedais & Efeitos: And what are your future projects with Vemuran? Can you anticipate something, some exclusive news?
Masaki Uemura: We have so many ideas coming soon such as booster, fuzz etc….please stay tuned.
Pedais & Efeitos: Brazil is an emerging market and grows increasingly. Your pedals still not arrived in Brazil. You sell directly here or have any plans for your pedals are here?
Masaki Uemura: Yes,we don’t have dealer yet in Brazil but we are looking forward and finding somebody to be our dealer.
Pedais & Efeitos: Masaki, thank you for the interview! Want to leave any message for our readers?
Masaki Uemura: Thank you for this opportunity!I would like to say hello everyone in Brazil. Please feel free to try our pedal,I’m sure you gonna love them.I’m proud to say that our pedal can truly perform on stage and in recordings.Your music life style will have much more fun.
